The garden was established 35 years ago and contains thousands of roses and many fruit trees.
The air is wonderfully scented on a warm spring morning with rose, jasmine and honeysuckle.
This delightful oasis is automatically irrigated by the snow-melt from the 11,500' high sierra. The
water is carried down the mountainside in ancient roman accequias which border the 2.5 acres
of land above and below. Most years the snow remains on the top until the beginning of May.
José and Juan have been maintaining the gardens and land for many years. The best time to see the
thousands of roses in full bloom is the fiesta in May. The house takes its name from a small Hermita
on the land, dedicated to the Virgin Mary, who manifested before three young shepherd
children in the village of Fatima in Portugal 1916.
